Ten C.H.U.G. Figures That Need Updates

Earlier this year at Hasbro's pre-New York Comic-Con event there were several incredible reveals including a Titanmaster (aka Headmaster) Voyager Class Galvatron figure! This figure represented a huge upgrade for the character who had previously only been seen as a rather underwhelming Deluxe Class figure in the "Universe 2.0" segment. This is not the first time a "C.H.U.G." (Classics Henkei! Universe Generations) figure has been "redone" but it is certainly an impressive example of a better toy being made from a character who has appeared in the line previously.

This got me thinking about ten other characters who have appeared at some point in the "C.H.U.G." series of figures, but have yet to get (much deserved) updates in a satisfactory form. Satisfactory is defined by accuracy to previous appearances, a new sculpt and functionality. No doubt there are tons more figures that fall into this category, but I thought these ten would be a fun "jumping off point" for discussion. The characters below are listed in alphabetical order.

Beachcomber
Released: 2008
Segment: Universe 2.0

Beachcomber

Beachcomber was a lovable character for his absolute sense of cool. He was also one of the few Mini-Bots who was not some type of redeco or retool. While he did get a Legends Class update in 2008, that figure was rather simple and limited in terms of articulation and play factor. It looked great mind you, and I am glad we got it. However, with the Legends Class figures now covering many characters from G1's smaller scales, it would be great for Beachcomber to receive a modern day Legends Class update as a new sculpt to go alongside guys like Windcharger.

Brawn
Released: 2008
Segment: Universe 2.0

Brawn

Brawn is a fan favorite among Autobots from Optimus Prime's original crew. His bravado, toughness and overall awesomeness is hard to deny so you've got to wonder: how have we not seen an update of this guy yet?! Sure we had 2008's Legends Class figure (when Legends referred to smaller, less articulated figures) but nothing since then. I mean, for Primus' sake Wheelie has gotten a Deluxe scale update, I don't think it's too much to ask for a Legends Class update of this character on par with other modern day Legends Class figures on the level of Blackjack and Warpath. Even better? A Brawn figure could be easily retooled and repainted as Outback!

Cheetor
Released: 2008
Segment: Universe 2.0

Cheetor

2016 will be the 20th Anniversary of "Beast Wars", the series that changed the "Transformers" status quo for years to come. Cheetor was one of the key characters in that series and has never received a worthy mass-release update. 2008's attempt at the character was...bizarre to say the least. While that figure looked amazing in beast mode, its robot mode was confounding, looking almost more like an "Animorphs" figure than a "Beast Wars" figure. With the anniversary of "Beast Wars" coming up, I am truly hoping that a new Cheetor is in our future.

Decepticon Doubledealer
Released: 2014
Segment: Generations

Doubledealer

As a kid I remember Doubledealer being one of my favorite Decepticon toys. His triple changing ability and spy persona captivated my imagination. The recent "Generations" version of Doubledealer was an okay take on the character, but the entire element of him being a "double spy" was lost since he only had one "robot" form. Worse he was based on the Blitzwing sculpt, which had a shoulder stability issue. With the Titanmaster gimmick coming up in 2016, it would be incredible to have a "true" Doubledealer with a distinctive beast, robot and vehicle mode and partners that can combine with him (perhaps a different Titanmaster head for each "faction" he serves?).

Impactor
Released: 2013
Segment: Generations

Impactor

Impactor was the leader of the Wreckers in the UK Marvel Comic book and he also exists in the modern day IDW Publishing comic books. He's not the friendliest character out there, but his grit and powerful appearance have many fans wishing he would get a figure with a whole new sculpt. Most of the members of the Wreckers have been updated in "Generations" at this point, why not their leader as well? Note: there is a Transformers Collector's Club version of the character coming out next year based on the Protectobot Rook sculpt, but I think a character as interesting and well liked by fans as Impactor is deserving of a Deluxe Class update with a whole new sculpt!
