Movie News: "Bumblebee" tops the International Box Office this weekend
The "Bumblebee" movie debuted in the United States with stiff competition from films such as "Aquaman" and "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse". However, thanks to a strong showing in China, the latest live action Transformers film has managed to take the international box office this past weekend! According to Variety:
"Paramount’s “Transformers” origin story “Bumblebee” ended “Aquaman’s” four-week reign at No. 1 overseas, pulling in $82.7 million in 63 foreign markets. The boost was thanks to a strong start in China, where “Bumblebee” generated $59.4 million when it debuted in 9,180 locations. This weekend’s bounty takes the blockbuster to $192 million abroad and $289 million worldwide."
Thanks to Box Office Mojo, we have a breakdown which shows "Bumblebee" has a domestic box office take of $97,128,140 and a foreign total of $192,000,000 (pending final counts on Monday) for a worldwide total of $289,128,140. The film still has yet to open in Poland and Japan. The previous film in the series "The Last Knight" earned $3,045,986 in Poland $15,690,606 in Japan (according to Box Office Mojo). If "Bumblebee" can manage to earn half those amounts in each country it would come very close to hitting the $300 million mark. If it holds strong in the United States for another week, it will definitely go over that.
"Bumblebee" has been a critical success with a current Rotten Tomatoes score of 93%, giving it a "Certified Fresh" rating. The audience ranking is at 79%, which is a strong showing for a live action Transformers film. "Bumblebee" is in theaters now.
