Events Coverage: Death Race 2050 at New York Comic-Con 2016
This year's New York Comic-Con 2016 experience has already revealed a bunch of Transformers news, but this event is huge and encompasses a ton of other media. One example is the upcoming "Death Race 2050" film by Roger Corman. This film is a reimagining of the classic "Death Race 2000" film starring Manu Bennett (of "Arrow" and "Shannara Chronicles" fame). Yesterday evening fans were treated to a trailer, ten minutes of the film and a panel with Manu Bennett and Roger Corman. Afterward there was an autograph signing!
I will say this film has a much different tone than the last three "Death Race" movies, which were focused on a prison where Death Race occurs. This film embraces the dark humor of the original and a lot of its retro design. You can check out my Tweets from the event here.
Here's the official press release:
ABOUT ROGER CORMAN’S DEATH RACE 2050
Filled with full-throttle mayhem and black-hearted humor, Roger Corman’s Death Race 2050 takes place in the not-too-distant future where America is controlled by an all-powerful corporate government that keeps the masses placated with violent virtual-reality entertainment. The event of the year is the Death Race, where a motley assortment of drivers compete in a cross-country road race, scoring points for running down pedestrians and killing each other. The reigning champion and popular favorite is half-man, half-machine Frankenstein — but little does he know he’s taken on a rebel spy as his co-pilot.
This all-new film stars Manu Bennett (The Hobbit franchise) as Frankenstein and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange) as the Chairman, as well as Burt Grinstead (“NCIS”), Marci Miller (Viper), Folake Olowofoyeku (The Beaver), Anessa Ramsey (Footloose), Yancy Butler (Hard Target) and Charlie Farrell (Cantar).
