Toy News: Images of "Bumblebee" Movie "Energon Igniter" Power Series reveals at New York Comic-Con 2018
Hasbro has provided Ben's World of Transformers with stock images of the "Power Series" figures revealed at New York Comic-Con 2018 from the "Bumblebee" live action movie. As a bonus, I have also included shots I took at Hasbro's press room! The first wave of these figures have already hit stores. The "Power Series" figures are designed to interact with "Energon Igniter Core" accessories included with the "Energon Igniter Power Plus" series and larger "Nitro" series figures. In general this "Energon Igniter Core" reveals new weaponry and helps move the vehicle along using a small motor.
There was no official product information provided for these figures so I will run down each of them based on my impressions seeing them in person today:
This is the figure probably giving most fans a headache since the figure looks like Megatron cosplaying as someone else. In fact, this is the base Megatron sculpt (used in the current wave of figures) with a new deco and a new head sculpt based on Blitzwing's appearance in the film. There has been no confirmation that Blitzwing will be a triple changer in the film but making him a tank pays homage to his G1 counterpart in a way and of course it gives Hasbro a chance to reuse some tooling. The colors looked really great in person and the head sculpt does look nice and evil. Inserting the "Energon Igniter Core" activates the "wings" for the "flying tank" mode Megatron is seen using in "Revenge of the Fallen".
Looking more like his "Age of Extinction" Evasion Mode than the Optimus Prime seen in the last "Bumblebee" trailer, this figure kind of combines two different versions of the Autobot leader into one. Inserting the "Energon Igniter Core" causes the tanks on the sides to swing up, revealing cannons inside of them. This is kind of fun and has echoes of the old "Speed Stars" toys.
It has already been shown in the "Bumblebee" trailer that Shatter can transform into a jet and a car. However for this simpler price point Hasbro decided to create two Shatter figures with one turning into a car and the other a jet. The version that transforms into a car appears to be a redeco of the same sculpt used for Dropkick with a new head/torso plate. Meanwhile the jet version is a new sculpt but do not be shocked if it is recycled for Dropkick with a new head/torso plate.
No release date was provided for this group of figures. I would guess it will be a month or so before we see them in stores.
