Movie News: "The Last Knight" to be Michael Bay's last film in the franchise
Fandango has sat down with Transformers producer and director for a length interview focusing on his past, present and future work. The interview kicks off with a look towards the figure, and in that interview Michael Bay indicates that "The Last Knight" will be his last turn as director in the long running franchise. According to the article:
"These movies that I've done, they are massive movies. They take a lot out of you," Bay said when we asked if he was finally -- for real, this time -- stepping away from the Transformers franchise. "I've done it enough, and I've had a great time doing it. I'm going out with a bang on this one, and I feel like you gotta go out while you're ahead, you know. I think I've had a good run, and I've got a lot of other movies I want to do."
Of course, this is not the first time Bay has indicated he would not continue directing in the franchise. Back in 2014 USA Today reported that he would not direct the fifth film which he did wind up taking on. So it is possible that he could return to the franchise in the future.
Bay has been one of the primary creative forces behind the live action Transformers universe. However in 2015 a "writer's room" was put together to develop a roadmap for the future of the franchise. The upcoming Bumblebee movie was a direct outgrowth of that effort.
