Toy News: Walmart Transformers: Vintage G1 figures officially announced
Starting earlier this year there were rumors floating around that some vintage G1 Transformers figures would be seeing a re-release. The first appeared to be a reissue of Hot Rod in a Generation One style box. Indeed, by May an Official Walmart listing went up. More recently, a listing went up for a vintage Starscream figure reissue (with long missiles and Megatron weapon). However, even with these listings, there has been no official word on these items, and to date they remain "out of stock" on the web sites (they were never in stock to begin with).
Today, thanks to IGN we now have official word that this vintage line of G1 Transformers is coming to Walmart later this year! So far the figures announced are:
- Devastator (Gift Set) - $74.00
- Hot Rod - $29.84
- Starscream - $34.76
Each figure will be packaged in boxes or bubble cards based on the G1 packaging design and artwork. Thanks to IGN, we have several images of these reissues (along with some additional photos from the Official Walmart listing for Devastator. One interesting note is that the Mini-Bots (Bumblebee, Outback etc.) appear to utilize the colors of their Encore Edition counterparts (the blue eyes on Outback is one give away). Also, Bumblebee features the cartoon-based head that Takara Tomy sculpted for their reissue of the character a few years back.
No word yet on when these figures will be released as none of them are currently listed as in stock. However it is great to finally get official confirmation that these figures are the real deal. I personally am looking forward to them!
