Movies: Chris Hemsworth Does Not Plan to Give Optimus Prime an Australian Accent

06/17/23

Genre fans are more than familiar with actor Chris Hemsworth thanks to his performance as Thor in the various Marvel Cinematic Universe films.  Next year, fans will hear Hemsworth voice Autobot leader Optimus Prime in the prequel film which will focus on the events predating the war between the Autobots and Decepticons.  Some fans may be wondering how Hemsworth plans on voicing the character who is largely identified with voice actor Peter Cullen who voices the character in both the original G1 series and the live action films.  In an interview with Collider, Hemsworth comments:

“No, I mean, we talked about this; the Optimus Prime that you hear on the screen in the films is an older, mature… you know, he’s been around for many, many, many, many years. This is the sort of origin story, so it's the younger version of him. So there are sort of hints and colorings that hopefully resonate enough with the Optimus Prime we know, but it is a youthful version of him, and different. But he won't be Australian.”
