Tech Specs:
According to MEGATRON, the best time to attack is when your enemy can’t see you. With his new stealth mode, he fades into the darkness like a ghost, and not even the most advanced AUTOBOT sensors can spot him. He hovers silently in the night sky, waiting for OPTIMUS PRIME to pass in range, when he’ll dive into action with his cannons blazing!

Black and silver, quick-change figure converts from detailed robot mode to futuristic jet vehicle and back again! Pretend to go to battle as the DECEPTICON leader with double fusion blasting projectiles that can be fired in both modes.

Fast Action Battlers are the successors to the 1-2-3 Transformers and Playskool Transformers, they are larger figures developed for younger kids to play with. The Fast Action Battlers generally feature simplified transformations and action features are combined with sculpting similar to mainline figures.

Early 2008 brought on a virtual onslaught of redecos. Whereas previously redecos were consigned to being parts of figure waves, almost every aspect of the Transformers line was inundated with them including a whole wave of Target and Wal-Mart exclusive redecos of figures from previous lines such as "Cybertron". The Fast Action Battlers were no exception. One of these redecos is Night Attack Megatron, a redeco of the first Fast Action Battler Megatron. This review will focus on the changes made to the figure for this release.

Robot Mode:
Despite the fact that this color scheme never appeared in the movie, I have to say that it is far superior to the first Fast Action Battler Megatron. The darker colors are bold and jump out at you in a way the dull silver/grey of the first Megatron do not. What surprised me is that the designers did not go the "cheap" route and just replace the silver with black plastic and say "Here you go." Instead, there are a lot of color nuances in this figure that I did not expect.

The primary plastic color is a very dark grey instead of a flat black. However, if you look carefully you'll see it isn't just one shade of dark grey. Instead, most of the body is made up of a dark grey, and then a slightly lighter shade of dark grey makes up his arms and lower legs. Silver plastic is used for smaller parts such as his missiles, the front of his feet and his head. This contrast works well and keeps him from looking dull. Aside from using varying colors in plastic, there are some great paint applications on this figure as well. Two paint colors make up a majority of his paint deco. A really nice blue, metallic spray is used on his lower legs on the back and on his lower arms. Regular silver is used on the front of his lower legs as well as his chest and waist and shoulders. The head is already silver, so black accents are used on the edges of his face and red is used for the eyes, giving him a very G1-esque look. The final touch is a small Decepticon symbol painted in black on the center of his chest.

The missile "firing" feature still works well and all the joints on the figure are nice and tight.

Vehicle Mode:
Most of the details that you see in robot mode are visible in the vehicle mode, however the wings are the most visible vehicle mode bits. Again, from a distance you'd think the wings were just dark grey or black. However they're actually two shades. The plastic is dark grey, but some parts have been painted with a black matte like finish (towards the center). A bit more silver appears on the center section as well.

Final Thoughts:
If you didn't take the plunge the first time and purchase the first Fast Action Battler Megatron, this is my preferred figure out of the two. Recommended.
