Background:
In 1989 the Transformers Victory series introduced the world to the Breastforce (yes, you read that right). This team of Destron (aka Decepticon) warriors each had a feature where their chests could detach and transform into an animal-based partner or a weapon. When this team really needed some serious power, they could combine into the powerful Liokaiser! As a follow up to Victory Saber and Deathsaurus, Hasbro chose these characters for 2025's HasLab. The team was given a slightly less awkward name: Chest-force (still a bit awkward, but hey). This set and all the stretch goals were fully funded and in June 2026 fans began to receive their sets.
One of the members of the Chestforce team is Drillhorn who transforms into a drill tank. He is partnered with "Hornbreast", a rhino themed partner who can transform into chest armor or a weapon.
Packaging:
Liokaiser is packaged in a giant box with some gorgeous artwork, but rather than me writing a ton about it check out my unboxing video below!
Accessories:
Drillhorn includes two accessories:
- The "Rhino Chest Animal" is based on Drillhorn's partner from Victory who was named "Hornbreast". For obvious reasons Hasbro did not go with that name. This figure is relatively flat with four legs, a rhino head (with a distinctive horn on top) and even a tail formed by the handle of his weapon mode. Fold the legs up, swing the head and tail down and you form his weapon mode which then draws focus to the rockets sculped into the sides of the figure. This figure is made of grey and black plastic with the eyes painted red and purple Decepticon on symbol on the back. His tail is a 5mm peg so Drillhorn can hold him in weapon mode.
- The drill in vehicle mode is a separate accessory with a 5mm port at the end. It fetures a really cool design with designs that run across and from back to front. While there is no spinning feature when attached you can manually turn it. This piece is made of light grey plastic with silver paint on the drill.
There is one additional weapon he can use, but it is not specific to Drillhorn. The set comes with several spears that you assemble using the staff, a pointed end and a spiked, round piece for the middle. These are 5mm so they can fit in the fists of each team member. You need to remove the spiked, round piece if you want to fit the spear handle into both hands but just put it back on before you connect the second hand.
Vehicle Mode:
Drillhorn's vehicle mode is a futuristic drill tank (and yes, that means his name is really on the nose). This mode's design borrows a bunch of the design elements from the original G1 figure. These include:
- The drill in front is not just a continuous set of horizontal line details but also features raised panels that go from the back to the front of the drill bit. This design calls back to indentations on the original Drillhorn's drill which went from the back to the front of the drill.
- The middle of the drill has a cockpit on top. That said, the G1 Drillhorn's cockpit was very smooth while this version has a raised section in the middle that is used as part of the transformation to robot mode.
- The treads are broken up into four segments which are all shaped like a trapezoid.
- The rear section features a cannon on either side over the rear treads.
- The rear section also features two sections that sweep back featuring vents and vertical fins.
Overall this vehicle really looks cool. I imagine it not being an Earth vehicle but a Cybertronian drill vehicle instead. I appreciate the callbacks to the G1 figure while looking like a modern figure at the same time.
Drillhorn is made up of blue, light grey and black plastic. Paint colors include silver, light blue, grey, yellow and red. Despite this many colors being present they don't make up a lot of detail in this mode. The silver and light blue are the most prominent. The silver is used for the drill accessory and the light blue is used for the cockpit cover. Yellow is used for outline details on the sides towards the back. The grey is found on the treads and interestingly there is a small dot of red at the top of the drill's base.
In terms of functionality, there is not much going on in this mode. Each tread has a wheel, allowing you to roll the tank around on a smooth surface. That's really about it. I am surprised the designers did not try to fit a couple 5mm ports somewhere. The Rhino Chest Animal can be attached to the robot chest for storage in this mode.
Transformation to Robot Mode:
- Lift up the sections with the vertical fins on the back of the vehicle.
- Swing the sections with the rear treads out to the sides (they will sit at an angle for now).
- Split the rear end in the middle to separate the legs.
- Pull the lower legs down.
- Push the side panels with the treads in.
- Push the sections with the vertical fins back into place.
- Swing the robot feet down.
- Swing the treads on the arms back.
- If necessary, rotate the fists into the proper position.
- Swing the drill back.
- Turn the head around.
- The Rhino can be attached to the chest as armor or held as a weapon.
Robot Mode:
The design of this figure nods to both the original G1 toy and animation model. Here are some of the key details:
- The head features a "helmet" section inspired by a Rhinoceros. The center of the head features a crest that is also meant to represent a rhino horn. The sides have small rhino style "ears" on them.
- The arms are mostly blocky and feature his treads mounted on the back of the upper arms. However, in what may have been to pay homage to the original G1 figure, the arms have tread details sculpted into them! I appreciate this double nod to G1 Drillhorn.
- The legs feature knees that extend out a bit with a five sided shape (versus the square in the animation). The rear treads are also on the sides of each lower leg.
Drill horn's vehicle mode colors all carry over to this mode. Most of the figure is made of the blue plastic with light grey plastic on the head and legs. Paint colors include light blue, red, yellow and light grey. His face is very distinctive looking with light blue paint on the face and red eyes. The colors are not particularly complex, but they look good and match up with his animation model.
There are twenty two points of articulation in this mode. That includes five in each arm and leg. As mentioned above, his Rhino partner can form his chest armor or a weapon that he can hold in one of his fists. The fists have the only 5mm ports in this mode. I do wish there were more such as on the forearms or lower legs.
Transformation to Leg Mode (from vehicle mode):
- Swing the drill back.
- Swing the cockpit section up (it may "snap" a bit as you lift it).
- Swing the section with the robot head on it out so the connector piece is pointed upward.
- Swing the cockpit section back into place.
- On the rear of the vehicle, swing out the foot and heel pieces.
The connector piece slides into the appropriate slot on Liokaiser's left thigh.
Leg Mode:
Drillhorn's leg mode is really just a variation on the vehicle mode. The bulkiness of the drill tank makes it perfect to form a powerful and bulky looking leg. The connector piece has a ratchet joint on it, allowing Liokaiser to bend his legs at the knees. The foot and heel pieces are linked in the middle so moving one moves the other.
Final Thoughts:
Drillhorn may not be the best figure in this set but he's still very cool. Both modes are very imposing looking in their own way. I also appreciate all the nods to the G1 design and of course having his Rhino partner is a treat.
Pros:
- Nicely sculpted details that nod to G1 Drillhorn.
- Chunky aesthetic that makes the character look powerful.
- It's great he has his Rhino partner.
Cons:
- Deco could be stronger, specifically I wish some more of the red detailing from the G1 figure were made into paint applications and/or tampos.
