Background:
The 2025 Generations line kicked off the Age of the Primes sub-line featuring some of the original Thirteen Primes in toy form. Unlike the previous Power of the Primes line, these figures would feature the Primes in forms inspired by previous portrayals of the characters either in animation or print. One of these Primes is Quintus Prime. The name of this character may evoke the name of the Quintessons for some fans and with good reason. In some fiction, Quintus Prime left Cybertron after the Age of the Primes to seed life throughout the galaxy. His first world was the one that would become Quintessa, home of the Quintessons (but yes, that didn't work out so well for the Cybertronians). Technically speaking there has already been a Quintus Prime toy before. In 2018 he was part of the Power of the Primes toy line but this is the first toy of his "true" form.
Packaging:
Unlike the unique packaging design of Legacy, the Age of the Primes packaging is more aligned with the look of the Studio Series line. The boxes are now rectangular with a flap on top to hang on pegs. The background color is a flat black. The front features a new series of icons giving information about the figure. This is set to the left and is colored gold featuring a faction logo, calling out how many steps are in the transformation (15 in this case) and the age recommendation (8+ on this box). To the right is artwork featuring Quintus Prime in both modes and the Emberstone. In between is the figure with a window cut away with the return of a plastic window! These had been removed the last few years but Hasbro heard the fan outcry (and probably got sick of figures getting damaged in box by vandals) so they're back and I'm really glad about that. Below the artwork is the "Transformers" logo now set horizontally for the first time in about a decade. Under that is the "Age of the Primes" line looking a lot less stylized than the Legacy logos of years past. Under that is Quintus' name and the Hasbro logo.
The back of the box features the figure in both modes calling out the 15 step transformation. It also has the Emberstone in a small window. The bottom half features legal information in multiple languages and an "Authentic Transformers" logo. The box is definitely going for a premium appearance and it aligns the look more with Studio Series but it definitely does not feel as special or unique compared to previous years.
Accessory:
Quintus Prime's accessory is the Emberstone, a crystal that has life giving powers. The appearance of this accessory is based on how it looked in the EarthSpark television show. There it looked like a rather large crystal with irregular edges from top to bottom and this accessory follows that pattern. The Emberstone has a 5mm peg at the bottom allowing Quintus Prime to hold it in his hands and you can attach it to the inside of his chest in robot mode. The 5mm peg actually winds up sticking out of the chest slightly looking almost like one of the "Spark Crystals" from Energon. The crystal is made of translucent yellow plastic with an orange Quintus Prime symbol printed on one side.

Robot Mode:
One of the oldest and most dramatic illustrations of Quintus Prime comes from the "Covenant of Primus" book. You can see the picture on the TFWiki. In a bit of a nod to the "Quintesson" connection he has several strips along his body that could also be interpreted as tentacles like those the Quintesson Judges have. He also has four arms and ahead with a pointed mask design. This figure takes that illustration and uses it as its foundation, but it makes certain parts look a bit more mechanical including the arms and torso. This is necessary in part to facilitate the transformation. Still, this is a really alien looking Transformer! His head has vaguely humanoid features like eyes, a nose and mouth but they remind me more of a Grey Alien's face than a human being. Two of his arms are very typical looking Transformers designs, but his "tentacle arms" are thinner and look almost insectoid with various sections layered on top of one another. The legs are curved and look almost like organic vines pressed together and his feet have two large "toes" in front and two in the back acting as his heels. In top of the legs are four segments forming his "skirt" resemble the tentacles and "strips" seen in the illustration linked above. A couple of the strips in the front have Cybertronian writing on them, which looks really cool.
I'll be the first to say that this figure is not going to be for everyone. Some may find its odd design off putting but I love Transformers figures that look different than the typical humanoid design and this fits the bill perfectly!
This figure is made up of two different kinds of plastic. Most of the figure is made up of green, dark grey and translucent green plastic. The "skirt" around the legs is made up of softer, translucent green plastic. Paint colors include a metallic green, metallic purple and some dark green on the top of the "skirt" sections. Metallic green on green plastic may not exactly sound exciting but the designers chose a shade of the color that works really well in contrasting against the plastic. jThere is something very rich looking about this color pattern and I really dig it.
There are twenty eight points of articulation on this figure. This includes five in each arm and two on each "tentacle arm". Despite how he looks, he does have waist articulation as well! I am not counting the ability of his skirt pieces to move. If you count that it would add five more. They are designed to move out of the way so he can strike various poses and I really appreciate. Each of his four fists has a 5mm port, allowing him to hold the Emberstone and accessories from other figures. The ends of the tentacle arms have small pegs that allow you to attach Blast Effects, which is a welcome touch.
Transformation to Vehicle Mode:
- If you have it out, put the Emberstone back into the chest.
- Straighten out the arms and legs.
- Swing the arms up to move them out of the way for now.
- Lift up all the skirt pieces.
- On the back of each lower leg, swing up the green panel and connect it to the tab on the back of each thigh.
- Swing the front panel of each lower leg up over the thighs.
- Point the robot feet down.
- Swing the skirt pieces back into place. Use the tabs on the lower leg panels to connect them to the skirt pieces on the front and back.
- On each arm, swing the piece behind the forearms over the fists.
- Rotate the arms around, then swing them up to connect the two forearms to form the front of the ship.
- Rotate the rear half of the ship around.
- The tentacle arms can be set facing back or forward.

Vehicle Mode:
In Transformers lore Quintus Prime left Cybertron to seed life throughout the galaxy, so it makes sense that his alt-mode is a spaceship. The ship design is really interesting and gives me Zentraedi ship vibes with its green color and organic looking design. In many ways, the ship looks almost like some type of alien sea creature. The front has a shape that recalls the shape of a stingray or even the head of hammerhead shark. The middle section is perhaps the most mechanical looking, complete with a cockpit while the back is made up of the tentacles/strips that form the robot mode's "skirt". You can almost imagine the various tentacles and strips in the back flowing in space as the ship flies from one world to another. I really love the look of this ship, but it is very different than your typical Transformers spaceship.
All the colors from the robot mode carry over here, but now we get a bit more metallic green and purple paint on the front half of the ship. Along with the translucent cockpit section the ship looks really beautiful.
Thanks to the tentacle arms, this mode actually has four points of articulation, and of course you can attach accessories with 5mm pegs and Blast Effects to the arms. The top of the cockpit section has a 5mm port, allowing you to attach accessories such as the Emberstone. You could also attach the Emberstone to the chest under the ship to make it look like Quintus is "deploying" the Emberstone to bring life to a world underneath him.
Final Thoughts:
As I've been writing this review various opinions of Quintus Prime have popped up in my social media feeds. Some call him "weird", others call him "not so great" and I get it. If you're looking for your typical Transformers figure with a purely robotic appearance like Optimus Prime or Starscream, then this is absolutely not the figure for you. However, if you like figures that push the boundaries beyond the traditional boundaries of a Transformers figure then you may want to check this one out. Highly recommended with the previous caveats.
Pros:
- Unusual and beautiful sculpt.
- Good amount of articulation, I'm glad they did not "cheat" on the lower body by making it one solid piece.
- Able to use both Blast Effects and accessories with 5mm pegs.
- Beautiful deco.
Cons:
- This is a weird looking Transformers figure that may not appeal to all fans.
