Background:
In late 2025/early 2026, Junkion Jalopy was added to the Age of the Primes line. This figure joins the ranks of previous Junkions like Scraphook and Crashbar and Axlegrease utilizing a "Weaponizer" type gimmick known in Legacy as "Evo-Fusion". This is a very interesting redeco/retool as it utilizes parts from three separate figures. The main body comes from Axlegrease while the head comes from Buzzworthy Bumblebee Tow-Line. Meanwhile, the "hook" accessory that came with Scraphook and Axlegrease has been replaced with the wheel/shield from Scraphook. This makes Jalopy one unique figure!

Packaging:
Age of the Primes represents a dramatic shift in Generations packaging. Unlike previous years of the War for Cybertron trilogy or Legacy which went in dramatic directions with packaging shape and artwork, the designers have dialed back the look of the boxes a lot. The Age of the Primes packaging winds up looking a lot more like Studio Series packaging. The boxes are now rectangular. No weird angles or anything. The background is just plain black. The "Transformers" logo is no longer vertical (dropping a trend that began over ten years ago) and is now horizontal in the front of the packaging with the "Age of the Primes" name underneath it. Character art is featured to the right, but it's only partial art showing a bit of the character in robot mode with focus on the vehicle mode underneath. To the left are icons describing how many steps the character takes to convert from one mode to the other and the age recommendation (8+ in this case).
Junkion Jalopy is inside the box attached to a cardboard tray. You can see almost the entire figure in robot mode thanks to the return of plastic windows! Fans will recall that for the last few years Transformers toys have had no plastic windows in an effort to (ostensibly) make more eco-friendly packaging. However, this led to damaged toys with heads being yanked off and sometimes figures being outright stolen. For many fans, the return of the plastic windows is a welcome one.
The back of the box shows the character in both modes calling out a 17 step transformation. Behind the character is a sky background with a wheel showing some of the Thirteen Prime symbols. I think the designers were going for a more "adult" and "premium" appearance to the packaging and to that end it works. It looks like something you'd see in a museum shop, but I do feel some of the fun and whimsy of the dramatic Legacy artwork and visual bombast has been lost and I'm a tad sad about that.
Accessories:
Junkion Jalopy is an interesting mix and match of different parts from different figures. The accessories are mostly carried over from the Axlegrease figure, but the wheel/shield comes from Scraphook.
- "Spoilers"/Exhaust Pipes: Each of these exhaust pipes are L shaped, featuring three pipes. Each of these is made of brown plastic. Except for the peg, they are painted silver. They feature a 5mm peg and port so they can be used as accessories for other figures.
- Engine/Blasters: The engine from the vehicle mode splits into two small blasters with weapon barrels that have attachment points for Blast Effects. These pieces are orange plastic with silver paint on the top and the top of the vertical tubes on the sides.
- Thrusters: Two thrusters are included with this weapon that are shaped like cylinders with triangular panels on top. Each of these features two 5mm pegs on the bottom and 5mm ports on the sides and front. These pieces are orange plastic with no paint applications.
- Wheel/Shield: This accessory is carried over from Scraphook. It is a spare tire that can double as a shield. However, this is no ordinary wheel. Instead, it features spikes around the edges of the wheel. Two of the spikes are replaced with pegs to attach Blast Effects. The wheel has one 5mm port, allowing figures to use it as a shield. This pieces is brown plastic with orange paint on the spikes.

Robot Mode:
Junkion Jalopy uses the same body as Axlegrease. This came partly out of requests by fans to get Axlegrease in traditional Junkion colors (as mentioned at Hasbro's SDCC 2025 panel (recording credit to Toys are Russ). Instead of the purple Decepticon-esque deco from Axlegrease, Jalopy is made up of brown, orange, silver and black plastic. Paint colors include two shades of orange, silver, gold and red. I really love the way the colors are broken up. For instance, the hip/waist area is orange, leading to silver thighs and then brown legs and orange feet. I also appreciate that Jalopy has red eyes. While most Autobots and "good guy" robots in the G1 cartoon had blue eyes, the Junkions however mostly had red eyes. This is a great little detail that most G1 fans will appreciate.
As mentioned above, Jalopy's head is actually Tow-Line's head. What's fun is that this head design was never intended to be a Junkion. It actually has its origins in latter days of the Generation 2 era when a sculpt was made that would eventually be turned into Machine Wars Hoist and Hubcap. This sculpt would later be turned into Robots in Disguise Tow-Line (aka Car Robots Wrecker Hook) and Robotmasters Wrecker Hook. When Buzzworthy Bumblebee Tow-Line was made, the head sculpt was a modern day version of the one from the Machine Wars sculpt. The funny part is, even though this was not made to be a Junkion head sculpt it works. Junkions always varied quite a bit in terms of head and body designs, so this works well with this figure.
There are twenty four points of articulation on this figure. That includes five in each arm and six in each leg. As a Junkion figure you can break the robot up, separating the arms and legs from the main body. These parts can then be used as attachments to other figures with 5mm ports or the central piece can be used as the core of a different vehicle. I've seen fans come up with some very creative designs using Weaponizers, Fossilizers and other Junkion figures. This is a fun play pattern that is largely absent from the toy line now so it's great to see it make a (brief) return.
Transformation to Vehicle Mode:
- Detach the weapons and push the blades in and set them aside for now.
- Straighten out the arms and legs.
- Point the feet down and slide them back.
- Swing the arms out using the hinges at the shoulders.
- Rotate the fists so the top of the fists face outward.
- Push the lower legs together.
- Rotate the lower body around.
- Separate the panels that form the back.
- Swing the head down against the back panel.
- Swing the back armor piece forward
- Swing the legs up.
- Swing the panels from the back down to form the car doors. These attach to the sides of the thighs.
- Swing the chest panel with the arms attached down and connect it to the pelvic section.
- Swing the forearms against the biceps. There is a tab on the forearms that fits into slots on the biceps.
- Swing the arms in and connect them together. The orange shoulder hinge pieces will sit at a slight angle - this is the correct position.
- Connect the two halves of the engine together and attach it to the hood.
- Attach the exhaust pipes to the ports in front of the rear wheel wells.
- Connect the two thrusters together, then attach them to the forearms on the back of the vehicle.
- The wheel/shield can be attached to the back of the vehicle.

Vehicle Mode:
Jalopy has the same vehicle mode as Axlegrease: a "Mad Max" style vehicle that looks like it came right out of a post-apocalyptic scifi film. The spikes along the front, the "cow catcher" front end and the huge exhaust pipes on the side make up a really cool looking vehicle. I also love the huge engine sticking out of the front of the vehicle. This time out there is a wheel on the back instead of a hook so it has a slightly different look than Axlegrease.
The base colors in this mode are the same as the robot mode but the silver parts of the robot mode are covered up. That said, the wheels do have grey panels on the sides. In this mode, gold paint shines as details for the headlights and large flame details on the hood and the sides of the vehicle. I know this does not sound like the most sophisticated thing to say, but I love flames on cars like this. Something about the vehicle design is kind of retro and having flames like this fits the deco perfectly.
There are nine 5mm ports on the core vehicle, four on each side and one on the back. If you add in the ports on the thrusters and exhaust pipes, the total comes to twelve. Two of the really fun ones are at the back of the thrusters which accommodate Blast Effects, making it look like Jalopy is getting a powerful boost as he races into battle!
Final Thoughts:
I know Jalopy is a redeco/retool but boy, he's a really cool one! I love that they mixed and matched accessories and took a head from a completely different figure to make this one. The deco is fantastic and fits the Junkion aesthetic perfectly. Add to that the play value and this figure is highly recommended!
Pros:
- Excellent sculpt in both modes with a fantastic use of parts from different figures.
- Beautiful deco.
- Good articulation and joints are nice and tight.
- Good play value.
- It's very cool that this figure can transform without partsforming.
Cons:
- The arms can pop out during transformation (this is a nitpick from before but it's still true).
